Improving planetary health through sports
Introducing ideas of sustainability within the world of sport is in rapid development.[1] Research on sport and its relation to the natural environment has only started to grow in the last 20 years. In addition, conducting research with focus on sport and the natural environment within the AUAS has been a totally new endeavor.
Taking the above into account, the research activities within this part of the Reimagine Sport project have given the us great insight into the current situation of planetary health and the world of sport in both academic literature and the daily practice of the world of sports.
Scroll down to find the outcomes of our work in two forms:
1) A ‘magazine style’ report
2) Case studies of Dutch eco-athletes.
We hope to encourage teachers, students, other researchers and professionals in the world of sport to take the ecological crisis seriously and to be inspired by what sports can do to become part of a safe, thriving, regenerative future.
We believe that the conceptual clarification, the benchmark examples and the primary data collection will prove to be the seed that will grow into rich a center of wisdom to help solve the biggest problem we have ever encountered.
We want to thank EFRO, Johan Cruijff ArenA and KNVB, all our AUAS colleagues, students and participants that helped in this journey.
